Descriptions:
There are two variants of lead oxide: one is a red tetragonal crystal, also called Mito. The other is a yellow orthorhombic crystal, also known as lead yellow, with a density of 8.0 g/cm3. The transition point of both is 488.5 °C, below which the conversion is slower. Both are hardly soluble in water. Lead monoxide is soluble in acid; it is also slightly soluble in strong alkaline solutions. Under heating, lead monoxide is easily reduced to metal lead by hydrogen, carbon, carbon monoxide.
